Ways Green Tea Can Aid in Weight Loss

Asia has always been known for its exotic medicines, and green tea was, and is still is, considered to be a fine medicine that encourages healing and overall well-being.

Among the common health benefits that you can get by drinking it are:

• Minimized risk of heart attack and atherosceloris. Some studies also suggest that it can have a positive effect in lowering cholesterol levels and blood pressure.
• Lab tests also indicate that green tea protects against colon cancer.
• Research has indicated that it is very good in reducing arthritis inflammation. It is also good in slowing cartilage breakdown. If you are a woman, then regular green tea drinking can improve bone mineral density, especially for older women.
• Also, there are studies that indicate how it can improve memory retention. They observed that older adults in Japan who drank green tea regularly showed lesser tendencies towards memory dysfunction or other difficulties.

With so much benefits that green tea has, is there any other way it can be beneficial to people? The answer is a resounding yes. Today, this lowly and humble beverage has also been transformed to ‘’superstar status” after scientists found out that it now has a potent effect in helping people lose weight. Here are some of the reasons why.
First, drinking green tea can increase your metabolism. The study that was made by the American Journal of Nutrition stated that green tea extracts can boost the metabolism by 4%, which consequently increases the caloric expenditure of a person. It’s hard to explain how it works, but in layman’s terms, the large quantities of catechin polyphenols that are found in green tea intensifies fat oxidation and thermogenesis (it’s how fast your body burns calories).

Second, green tea can reduce your appetite. Good news for those who can’t control their munching. According to the scientists at the University of Chicago, green tea caused their lab rats to lose 21% of their entire body weight. This was because they consumed up to 60% less food than they would normally eat.

Third, green tea can decrease the rate of fat absorption and regulate glucose levels in the body. The reason for this can still be attributed to the catechins found in green tea. It helps in slowing down the blood sugar after you have eaten a meal, which then prevents any erratic insulin spikes (too much insulin can promote fat accumulation) from happening in the first place.

Fourth, drinking green tea can help you in cutting back the calories you get when drinking your favorite coffee. Let’s face it: There are societies who are addicted to many things. In our society, the usual addiction is that cup of java that is seduction in itself. Be it the frapuccino, mocha, espresso, regular, double cream, decaf, ½ skim, no cream, and double sugar, the calories you get from indulging in coffee can wreak a lot of havoc in your waistlines.
